About us

My name is Jimmy.. and this website is dedicated to Dexter... my former iguana pet.

Some people think that iguanas make cool pets; and they may be right. As many, I had the misconception that iguanas are low-maintenance pets; and I was wrong.

As with any other pet, iguana pets have their requirements; however, the main issue in taking care of an iguana pet is not just your ability to provide the iguana's need. It also depends and involves your qualifications.

Love alone doesn't do the trick. Of course you need to love your iguana pet in order to take proper care of it. When you love your pet, naturally it follows that you'll do everything to take care of it; within the frame of reason. Love is the basic requirement of been a pet owner... as well as a boyfriend, husband, son or whatever... It lays down the foundation for all the other things that you need to do or have in order to take proper care of your iguana pet; so love is necessary, but somehow over rated.

Before buying an iguana pet, you should realize that iguanas can live up to 20 years.
Are you prepared to make a commitment for that length of time?

If you think that you can just sell an iguana when you're bored with it, you would be wrong. You see, a sudden change of owners can affect the iguana very deeply. It would adversely affect the iguana's health.

Dexter was around the house free roaming making my live a little bit happy after bitter days of work. I  had made him so obedient that he pooped every day on the same spot, sometimes he didn't aimed  the newspaper... but always the same spot.
By the time Dexter was around one year old....I got the notice that my now day wife, was pregnant. I pictured a problem.
I didn't want my daughter (yes.. it is a girl) to be latched by the iguana... so I put Dexter on a cage... and just like anyone... he started to bitch out...

He changed his behavior of been a nice quite lizard roaming around the house to an angry iguana just because I put him on a cage... always wanted to go away when I hold him and stuff like that... So I had to start building our relationship again from scratch.

Iguanas need very long time to be tamed. You cannot expect an iguana pet to begin behaving properly immediately. Iguana pets need time to properly be trained... and some traumatic changes on lifestyle can stress out your iguana pet making your relationship with it a pain.
